REVIEW OF ‘LARS AND THE REAL GIRL’
Right off the bat, I’d have to say that this is my 3rd favourite Ryan Gosling film, trailing behind Blue Valentine, and Half Nelson.
Lars is a quiet, introverted young man who knows no human contact beyond the borders of friendship. After Bianca, a life-size, anatomically-correct sex doll enters his life, things seem to move upward. At first, his small midwest-US town doesn’t know what to make of it. In due time, they accept the relationship as normal, and learn to love Lars as he does Bianca.
This film has it’s comedic edge as assumed, but also packs a hearty punch of love, bringing me to tears around almost every corner. Gosling brings a character to life who we come in contact with more than once in life, but with a loving twist. The man who we always worried about finally bring himself to be at one with himself, to open up.
To love.
Also, the character known as Margo (portrayed by Kelli Garner) is everything that I want in a woman. Just thought you should know.
